I hope everyone had a great weekend! It is amazing how it is almost October! The quarter will soon be over.

Last week I assigned our first book report which is due October 7th. They are to read a short chapter book and I will hand out a book report sheet for them. Our first one will not be a written summary.

Scholastic book orders are due Wed. September 29th. If your child has lost their book order magazines, you are able to order on line. I have set up the parents' order on line for Scholastic. Please feed my fish!

We have survived progress reports! Don't worry, there is still time to improve on all grades for the first quarter. The students will arrive to new locations in the classroom on Monday. I have moved all the desks. We were getting a little too comfortable with our neighbors. Hopefully, everyone will be fresh for about a month.....then we'll move again. I've got to keep them on their toes.

My electric pencil sharpener does not work very well and the students have had to use small hand held sharpeners at the back of the room. In order to keep work flowing, I have told the students that when their supply of pencils run out, they are encouraged to get a good mechanical pencil with lead refills (#7). Hopefully, this will eliminate the constant movement during work time.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations Mrs. Hurley's class! We had perfect attendance for the 100th. Day!
Thank you administration for rewarding us with a pizza party.

February is African American History Month.

Awards Assembly for 2nd quarter is this week.

We are studying Arizona State Symbols and the Saguaro Cactus Blossom is Arizona's state flower. During the storm a couple of weeks ago, our saguaro cactus almost fell over on our house. The "cactus doctor" came to fix it and had to cut off a couple of its arms due to its weight. I brought in 4, two inch slices of the arms so the students could see how suculant and moist the inside was. We will keep an eye on them to see what happens next!
