Please feed my fish!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! It is amazing how it is almost October! The quarter will soon be over.

Last week I assigned our first book report which is due October 7th. They are to read a short chapter book and I will hand out a book report sheet for them. Our first one will not be a written summary.

Scholastic book orders are due Wed. September 29th. If your child has lost their book order magazines, you are able to order on line. I have set up the parents' order on line for Scholastic. If you do, you will need the following activation code: GXB6Q You will have access to all the books available to order from. You will need to pay with a credit card on line. Your child's books will arrive with the classroom's book order.

TEST SCHEDULE:

Please feed my fish!

We have survived progress reports! Don't worry, there is still time to improve on all grades for the first quarter. The students will arrive to new locations in the classroom on Monday. I have moved all the desks. We were getting a little too comfortable with our neighbors. Hopefully, everyone will be fresh for about a month.....then we'll move again. I've got to keep them on their toes.

My electric pencil sharpener does not work very well and the students have had to use small hand held sharpeners at the back of the room. In order to keep work flowing, I have told the students that when their supply of pencils run out, they are encouraged to get a good mechanical pencil with lead refills (#7). Hopefully, this will eliminate the constant movement during work time.

Wednesday -- HALF DAY.

I would like to thank Erik for giving such a wonderful speech at our Heroes' Night presentation. He made me so proud and I know his family was also! Great job Erik!

Our students will be taking home a progress report this week. Please make sure you review their grades and sign the bottom so the students can return them to me. If you see any grades that are a bit shocking----be assured that they have until October 14th. to improve on them.

Please continue to practice the multiplication table with your child. We will have a test on Friday on multiplication with two digits times one digit.

We will soon have a test on the Northeastern states and capitols. We are also covering the three branches of government and their duties.

We have started our first experiment on Friday. We are testing three types of wraps; baggies, tin foil, and wax paper. We will eventually figure out which one of these has kept our slices of bread the most fresh.

I would like to thank all of my parents for making sure that your children are doing their homework. We have had great success with homework.

I hope we are all busy working at our first fund raiser! Remember, for every five cards a student sells, their name will go into a drawing to win a lap top computer! This Subway card is such a great value.

August 23, 2010

Our first full week of school has been completed! Our students are a little groggy. We will get them back into studious shape in no time!

Thank you so much for those of you who brought in all the supplies needed for our classroom. Our days work so much easier with the proper supplies.

The students took home the Student Handbook on Friday. Please take the time to read and go over the book this weekend so you and your child are familiar with school policies and proceedures. You and your child need to sign the blue form and return it to school.

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun summer. I would like to welcome all of our Heritage family back to school. We have entered our first 2 days of school. Time to get to serious work now. Starting Monday, August 16, we will begin our normal schedule.

Keep in mind that DIBELS testing will be conducted this week in between regular instruction. My students will receive a new spelling list of 25 words every Monday. Their phonogram and spelling tests will be conducted every Friday. The results of these tests will be passed back the following Monday. I will always post the new spelling list on this site on the weekend before the school week.

Reading tests will also be conducted every Friday. They will have the full week to read our short stories to prepare.

Math tests will be given after completing chapters or concepts. This is usually completed within 5 to 7 days.

I am looking forward to this new school year with great expectations for a successful year!
